Browsing Apple OS Names

I know, I know, the name of the post is weird when you are talking about trips, but everything makes sense when it comes to Yosemite. Many of the Apple OS names have been taken from rock formations from Yosemite.

A friend of mine, who we will call Villa, decided to go from Argentina to the US to finally get the Covid-19 vaccine. But, of course, processes are different in both countries. We are lucky here in the US to have free availability everywhere and even with the chance to choose the lab that manufactured the vaccine.

He arrived at SFO and even in the same airport. Some signs informed that you could get vaccinated with the J&J one, which is convenient for travelers as it is one dose. The errand of getting vaccinated is insanely short, 25 minutes and you are out, 7 mins of paperwork, 3 mins to get the vaccine, and 15 minutes to see if you have any reaction. Happy path, and off we go.

My friendship with Villa aged outstanding. We spent many stories together in different countries and with different tenures. We have dramatic stories, joyful stories, and work together, so we also have work stories.

But in this post, I want to write about a short trip we did on his stay here in California. Due to time limitations, we decided to make a road trip to Yosemite instead of going to Alaska, which is on the books. He has been there before, and I haven’t. Even though I’ve been close to there regardless of whether I live in California for almost 6 years.

He took care of the reservations for the hotel and the entrance to the Park, so, on my end, the only thing remaining was to drive (and get coffee every some kilometers).

The road to Yosemite is interesting. I am used to going to Lake Tahoe, which is excellent; highways are incredibly well kept if you go to the north. Even if you have a blizzard, snowplows and tons of workers go out to the route rescuing you. Now in the middle of the spring, snow wasn’t a threat at all, so it was about enjoying conversations and admiring the landscape you could appreciate.

Yosemite works this way; it has a reminiscence on how Disney is set up. You have outside hotels, you have an entrance to the Park, and then, if you are wealthy enough, you could get hotels inside the Park. It wasn’t our case. However, the hotel was 2 miles away from the entrance. Very convenient.

Once you are inside the Park, you have plenty of options to entertain yourself. It depends on what you want to do: camping, canoeing, walks, bike, or hike, among others. We chose hiking, we grabbed a map with the tentative routes, and we preferred to see falls, as there are many, and it is not something you see daily.

From the park entrance to the place where you can park your car and start deciding the trail you want to be on, there is an hour’s drive, through stunning landscapes that the best word to describe is overwhelming. No camera nor story would represent the magnitude and greatness of the place. Peaks and rock formations are immense, and you feel like an ant around them.

We decided to go to Vermont Fall, it was advertised, and you could reach there through the Mist Trail, that it was marked as moderate difficulty and the whole loop may take 2.5 hours. So doable, isn’t it? You park about a mile away to the trail entrance, and off you go, get plenty of water and when you think you have a lot of water, get more. But, unfortunately, springtime hit us with sunshine that may take you to dehydration, combined with the height and the exercise, something you don’t want to suffer there.

The trail is undeniably marked, with tons of signs and people flowing both sides with different fitness. Your mood changes a lot; you get excited about all the beautiful things you will appreciate. However, as soon as you start climbing on the trail, you are in your lungs disappear, and your heart rate increases rapidly. Suddenly you think it is a good idea to stop and have a sip of water and stabilize your heart rhythm.

After almost an hour of walking, you make eye contact with the Vermont Fall. It is impressive, all its greatness flowing water at great speed generating somewhat steam and a wet breeze that causes rainbows. The picture is beautiful, and the sound makes even greater. There is a stair that takes you from the bottom of the fall to the top. The steps are wet, slippery, and uneven, where going up takes a massive toll. It is physically exhausting getting there (well, it depends on your shape). There is a lovely esplanade upon the top where you can take pictures from the top of the fall and see all the water falling with an intense sound, but still beautiful.

A guide we met in the middle of the trail suggested we close the course of the track going through Craigs Point instead of going down the slippery stair, leading to an unfortunate accident. But, the loop had another climb of another 1000 ft (300 meters) on top of the 2500 ft (700 meters) we had climbed already. I am not physically destroyed, but I am not in a great fit to do that running. I’d say, but hey, it was tough to get onto the summit, especially the latest moments.

We arrived at Craig’s Point, an incredible view, and then, it was all downhill; it took less time, but legs weren’t responding as initially.

The trail finished, we enjoyed a meal in a restaurant, resting our legs and recovering our breath. We made a couple of routes that day, and there were plenty more to explore. Yosemite is a place where you should have an excellent time, not get exhausted the first day, and enjoy all the activities you can do going there.
